Anyone who has been in Bicycle Heaven knows a little bit about how we run our business. We try to have something for everyone. This is not always an easy feat for a small business due to a limited merchandise space that has to fit many different products and brands which all serve different demographics of customers. We find we have to have things to satisfy the needs of families and recreational riders but also need to keep our road enthusiasts happy with products that cater to their needs. This essentially leads to a blend of kids bikes, chamois cream, bells, and tight clothing all lumped under one roof. Despite the diversity of our products we find it necessary to offer items such as Assos clothing.
From my experience there are two main reasons people buy Assos clothing, Comfort and Quality. Every cycling apparel brand can make a nice bib short that will satisfy most customers but some riders are incredibly picky with how comfortable a short is when in the saddle. Assos clothing is comfortable for many reasons, they have great dense chamois in their shorts and tights, all of their clothing is preformed to fit closely to the body’s unique shape, and they use high tech materials that provide a number of comfort benefits. The feel and performance of this clothing seems to be unmatched by anything else and loyal Assos wearers are aware of this. So having really expensive clothing on our sales floor might seem pointless to some but absolutely essential to others. After all there is a price for quality.
These pictures show the difference in shape between a pair of Assos Shorts and a pair of budget shorts. These photographs will show you how just by looking at the clothing you can see a drastic difference in quality and fit.
This Image is from the front of two pairs of bib shorts. The shorts on the left are a pair of Assos shorts while the pair on the right are a pair of budget shorts, both Shorts are size extra large for demonstration purposes. From this side you can see the way the fabrics are cut as well as the amount of stretch and movement the shorts will have. The budget shorts look much larger which will compensate for how well the material will stretch and fit to the body while the Assos shorts are appear more compressed and form fitting
From this side angle the difference is a lot more drastic. The Budget shorts lay pancake flat and hold little shape. The Assos shorts have much more shape because the way they are cut. This cut is what is going to provide overall comfort for the rider.
This demonstration was simply about the shape of these shorts keep in mind we did not even go into the quality of the chamois or the material they are made out of. Even on shape alone we can see from this demonstration the Assos Bib shorts a superior product. I must disclose that this was not a fair fight due to the difference in price of these products. The Budget short retails for $100 MSRP while Assos shorts all of which fit in this way range from $200 to $340 MSRP. Even though it was not a fair fight you can see that there is a reason some prefer to spend more for a superior product.
The quality behind Assos clothing is the second most popular reason for buying Assos clothing. If properly washed and cared for Assos clothing stands the test of time. Their fabrics are durable and keep their shape over time. A pair of Assos shorts might be expensive but if they last as long as three pairs of cheaper shorts and have a more comfortable feel you still come out ahead. There is a price for quality, and people that wear this clothing notice that.
Come in and see for yourself what Assos has to offer as we are one of the few stocking Assos dealers in the Chicagoland area.
