Our Cat 5 men and Cat 4 women continue to impress! Last weekend, racing took the team to the first (hopefully of many) Fox River Omnium. The omnium combined a technical, not-very-hilly crit in Elgin on Saturday with the brutally steep and hilly Fox River Grove crit on Sunday. Scoring for the overall was tweaked to favor a well rounded rider, able to sprint for extra points on Saturday but also climb for extra points on Sunday. When the dust had settled and the smoke had cleared, we won the “overall” (and the awesome red “leaders jerseys”) in both the Cat 5 men and Cat 4 women.
For the men, Dave Ross (pictured above) put together two great days to win the Cat 5 men’s jersey. D&D (Dave Ross and Dave Pratt) are consistently at the front of every race they’re in, and Ross was “noticed” by the fine folks at Velopost this week! On the women’s side, Karen (pictured at top with her awesome new Jamis) scored both podium spots and bonus points on each day to win the overall for the Women’s 4′s. Perhaps just as impressive, Karen is the 3rd different Cat 4 lady on our team to do something special in 3 consecutive weeks! Our girls team is just as strong as the guys.
One of the other impressive rides from the weekend was Eric Christ in the Cat 3 race at Fox River Grove. Eric was in a group of guys who were dropped about half way through the race. Eric chased by himself for 3 laps, finally catching the lead pack as the bell for the final lap rang. Even with that, Eric had enough juice left to withstand the last lap attacks and sprint for 3rd place. How does that little guy put out so much power? Well done, Eric!
