While most of us had a blast at the State Championship crit this weekend, others were off tackling different challenges. Tim Gehr shares the fun he had down at the Great Egypitan Omnium:
Back from my southern adventure at the Great Egyptian Omnium and will be ready for Winfield! I did learn much about arrogance , respect, pain, and resilience over this weekend.
Not much of a writer but the first race was a road race for 42 miles in 100 degree heat the first lap I felt good and rode in the front and feeling so good (arrogant) I decided not to take on water at the feed zone and marshal on. Well at mile 35 the heat and cramps set in and could not hold on to the efforts being dished out. I cramped up and stopped in the middle of a climb. Fortunately for me the support car had a nice cold bottle of water and kind words. I drank and got back on crawled back in front of 5 guys to finish 27th. I learned a valuable lesson to respect the course, Mother Nature, and the participants.
Dehydrated and spent I went back to my cabin to regroup because in 2 hours I had an 8 mile TT. Got back and decided to ride. Feeling crappy I just buckled down and go for it. Long story short I like TT’s, so felt more in my game. I did well. Not my best after the road race but placed 6 th.
So with new confidence I went into the Criterium the next day. With gained knowledge I set forth to do better. Simply put I rode smart and tried to position my self right for the sprint. Started in 15 th place opened it up and took 5th missing 3 rd place by inches.
So long story short is I learned to check some arrogance at the door, have confidence in myself and to respect the factors that influence the out come.
I do appreciate all of the help the BH has given me and hope to represent you guys on the podium in the near future.
See you guys Tuesday!
Great job Tim! Looks like the recent upgrade is working out just fine!
